AAU Baton Twirling Collegiate Challenge November 2020 Location: Virutal Results | Video Submissions
ORLANDO, Fla. - Throughout the month of November, AAU Baton kept marching the beat of the music as they hosted their AAU Baton Collegiate Challenge. This event showcased both featured twirlers and majorette lines from colleges around the nation.
For this challenge, athletes had to submit a video performance of their field routine during a typical football game. The event fielded 51 college participants and 10 different entries from across the nation. Some colleges who participated were University of Mississippi, Villanova University, University of Cincinnati and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
“Not only was this event a competition for the collegiate athletes, but it also helped showcase to our young athletes what collegiate twirlers do and what colleges have twirlers and lines,” said Candice Dowdy, AAU Baton Twirling National Chair.
The collegiate challenge was a success crowning three individuals and one group as the best in the nation. The results were as follows:
Collegiate Overall Winner: Villanova Majorette Line - Villanova University People’s Choice Winner: April Gable - University of Cincinnati 2020 Service Award winner: Julia Arciola - The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Through the efforts of AAU Baton and its membership, they were able to also give out scholarship money to the Collegiate Feature Twirlers and the Collegiate Majorette Line.
In addition, the Service Award winner was awarded to the individual or group that raised the most money through donations, fundraisers or sales. All proceeds raised through the service award portion were split between the AAU Baton Twirling Scholarship Fund and the 2020 AAU Cares Organization for AAU Baton, the Susan G. Korman Foundation (Twirling to Fight Cancer).
AAU Baton was proud to be the first to offer a virtual competition this earlier this summer. More than 150 competitors registered for that event, making it an overall success. There are a lot more fun things coming to AAU Baton this year, so keep an eye out on AAUBaton.org.
