Austin Peterson is the winner of the 2014 AAU Joel Ferrell Award for Baton Twirling in the AAU Junior Olympic Games! Peterson, 16, competes for the Mystic Twirlers, where his eight year old sister also competes. His mom, Jonnie, is their coach and seems to be doing a pretty good job.

The family from Las Vegas, Nevada took home a slew of medals over the four day baton competition. In individual competition, Austin took home four gold and one silver medal. As a team, Austin and his sister grabbed five gold medals. He earned another gold medal with another partner, bringing his total to ten gold medals and one silver.

He's earned gold for the last three years in the Jr. Men's Solo and the Sr. Men's Dance Twirl, while also moving from Beginner to Intermediate/Advanced in Flag and Baton, which he also took home the gold in several times.

This year, he was chosen as the AAU Joel Ferrell Award winner because of his "outstanding performance in multiple events throughout the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games. He has also displayed a high level of sportsmanship and shown a great improvement and growth from previous years in both his twirling ability and leadership."

Congratulations to Austin and we hope to see you again next year!
